Idea Overview:
Imagine having the ability to learn how to drive from the comfort of your own home. A tool that you could use, as quickly as you wish, as intense as you want. To learn by doing, without the hassle of finding an instructor and paying exorbitant fees for lessons. Here, VR Drive Club (VRDC) comes in. The VR solution for learner drivers. Learners will have access to all the digital resources necessary to pass a real-life DVLA practical examination. With features such as instant replay, and continuous motion scenes, you can 10x your learning speed, with a fraction of the cost.
Who might use it/where it might be used?:
This product/service is eligible for everyone who wants to learn how to drive. The learning experience can take place from the comfort of your own home, with all the VR gear at hand.
The Market (B2B, B2C or Both):
Both
Sector the idea belongs to:
Software
Is there a similar idea to be found?:
Some games incorporate aspects of VR to create a risk-free environment for drivers to learn. The game is called Virtual Driving School and it is on Steam. The AA uses VR to accelerate the training of instructors.
Why you think there is a demand for your idea?:
There is a current backlog of students in need of driving lessons as well as driving instructors. The supply simply cannot meet the demand, meaning there may be an opportunity to provide a suitable alternative for people to learn how to drive. From the comfort of your home, VR driving has many digital offerings, such as instant simulations, a risk-free environment, gamification, and more specific scenario-based learning (E.g. dual-carriageways, roundabouts, motorways, speed control).
Who would be the ideal customers?:
The ideal customers for the VR driving school would be brand new learners, from the age of 17 and above. The VR can also be aimed at teenagers who have not reached the legal driving age. Regarding marketing, a huge portion of it would go to secondary school students, with an interest in VR, cars, and learning to drive.
What ideas do you have to reach these customers?:
Social media marketing will be a huge part of the marketing campaign. Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Twitter. Using influencers to convey snapshots of our VR training in action.
How far have you developed this idea?:
The idea for VR driving is just a concept at the moment. However, the principle of having the driving experience remotely is being developed. A prototype has not yet been completed.
What – if any – feedback have you had for this idea so far?:
I've received positive feedback regarding the use case of VR driving classes. However, there have already been some pitfalls that we have identified as impractical.
What supporting material – if any - would you like to add to your proposal?:
To clarify, the customer will have a physical representation of the driver's seat in their own home. The steering wheel, pedals and gearbox will also be physical components sent to the customer. The VR set allows them to enter the virtual driving environment.

Could you licence the technology from the AA and rent it out to customers?
