Idea Overview:
I’m tired of swiping in dating apps to get no matches, and when you do get matches the likelihood it goes anywhere is next to zero. My solution is first impressions, a video-call based speed dating app. No swiping, no time wasting, just authentic face to face conversations. If you like each other, keep chatting!
Who might use it/where it might be used?:
The truth is that anyone should be able use the app and greatly benefit. But as a young professional myself, I understand the dating landscape for students and young professionals best. This would be a great place to start
The Market (B2B, B2C or Both):
Business to Consumers (B2C)
Sector the idea belongs to:
Information technology
Is there a similar idea to be found?:
I have found Abto, which is awful, as no one responds.
There are many apps that try to get users to pay for ‘tokens’ to use their services which you will never convince users to do.
We need a freemium service that demonstrates the value of the app to the consumer before charging them anything.
Why you think there is a demand for your idea?:
Dating apps are awful. The major options are all owned by match group, a huge conglomerate, who aren’t interested in helping users, but making a quick buck. The truth is we need an authentic solution that respects it users. I also want to build a strong internet community to drive the idea
Who would be the ideal customers?:
Tailoring the young professional and students in and around London (where I’m based) would be best. Here we can utilised a demographic I understand, utilise a densely populated area and give as many dates out to people who can actually meet
What ideas do you have to reach these customers?:
I want to build my TikTok (currently at ~300 followers) generally giving value around dating. We can also pay celebrities to appear on a video call event, and also have people film their journey using the app. Once we have an established product we can also market that product using paid internet ads or advertising around London.
How far have you developed this idea?:
I have a wire frame on figma so I have a strong idea of what the MVP is. This is where I would like to start: make the MVP and them scale it’s features as the users come in and demand more. I have more ideas on where the app could grow and added features, including revenue and scaling
What – if any – feedback have you had for this idea so far?:
I’ve had some great reactions from people when explaining the idea, although I had one friend tell me that they thought it might be a “little intense”. But that is the idea so I’m not too concerned about this, whilst also being aware that we do need to combat this
What supporting material – if any - would you like to add to your proposal?:
I have a figma model worth sharing. I will only share the MVP for simplicity, and this will have a live mode where you can click through the wireframe: https://www.figma.com/file/kpKJNLidFESBNdU9RaILGs?node-id=0:1&locale=en&type=design

Here is a Lean canvas of the idea: https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVPaT3ZPY=/
which is also included as a screenshot in the shared files
I have added a kickstarter video I made but never published hoping it will give a good insight into the idea

My understanding is this is a video driven dating app rather than picture and text based. If it’s hard to get people to swipe through pictures and summaries, what evidence to you have that they will commit their time to speak to random strangers. I’m not the customer profile for this idea so it would be interesting to see if you have any validation data such as customer interviews or email waitlists?

This is a great point. I don’t have any surveys atm because I don’t exactly know where I would do this (I would love your input if you have any particular ideas).
One thing I know from many conversations I’ve had is that there is a real frustration in the current dating world, especially with online dating and the big names which masquerade themselves as a solution.
My plan was to build a community on TikTok around dating, and pitch the idea to them, based on feedback and general reception, I was going to change the product to meet client needs.
But there are many gaps in that current market because people aren’t satisfied. I think demonstrating real value could be very powerful there.

There are huge advantages to the system I’m proposing btw:
– Lower time investment
– Actually getting to speak to someone
– It’s safer (Using Id verification) + no bots
– Quality matches over quantity
I completely agree that you need to convince people to try it in the first place, which is no easy feat, but with the correct marketing and a free part of the product, this is completely within scope

Idea sounds fun! There is a chat called Omegle, where you can chat with random people. It has a different purpose, but the biggest problem with it is wankers. How you are planning to avoid that? Also, how you are planning to attract more ladies on the platform? From personal experience, I know that it`s hard to get a match for men. But super easy for women 😉

Yea completely. A lot of thought went into these points.
1.ID verification so if you break community guidelines you can’t make another account
2. I suppose the USP is that we’re providing a safer dating experience for women, but also social media.
3. I agree but my understanding is that women don’t have a great time on bumble/tinder hinge either so hopefully this is a solution!
Thanks for the comment!
