Idea Overview:
Mental Health has been a hot topic for a sometime now. With therapy being expensive and the NHS/world health services not being fully equipped to deal with this issue - People are suffering in silence. As humans we have become accustomed to keeping a lid on our pain and suffering. We must start talking about our struggles. I am currently using personal experiences to influence the creation of a new application. An app that matches people together to communicate at times of need. The matching process will be based on current experiences/issues the individuals have. I wish to get people talking and make their minds a healthier place through this platform. I feel the mental health space is crying out for a platform that encourages people to truly feel comfortable when expressing their dark moments with others that can relate.
Who might use it/where it might be used?:
Talking about your problems can release pent-up feelings. Talking to someone outside of the situation may help you to find a solution to the problem. In dark times one can feel lonely and isolated. They may feel their friends or family won’t understand...yet how powerful would it be if there was an app that can connect people together with individuals who understand and can relate.
The Market (B2B, B2C or Both):
Business to Consumers (B2C)
Sector the idea belongs to:
Professional services
Why you think there is a demand for your idea?:
Mental health isn’t going away. It is not a condition where it can be cleared up by tablet. It is here to stay, and as humans we must feel connected at times of need. There is no app out there that connects people that are suffering. Many seek companionship in this day of age..Tinder (online dating site) have 50 million current users. Many of their users must be seeking a connection with others? Are they lonely? Are they isolated? > No, my idea isn’t a dating app! I am merely suggesting that people are willing to reach out to others when longing for a connection.
The app differs itself to the the Samaritans given that people can reach out to people who have specific experience - makes it more personal, accurate and intimate.
This is not a crisis app nor should people share contact details.
Who would be the ideal customers?:
In terms of who can use this - There’s a broad spectrum. People suffering with depression,a loss/death, addiction, bankruptcy, debt, eating disorders, child hood abuse, domestic abuse...The List Is Endless. For example - Mary may have been a victim of domestic abuse. Her soul is destroyed and confidence is shot. She feels isolated, hurt and worried. She doesn’t feel comfortable discussing this with her friends because she is ashamed or feels they won’t understand or, she feels she doesn’t want to trouble them with her issues. Where does Mary turn to at 8pm at night when at home feeling down? She has no therapist she can call because she can’t afford it and no support...What if there was an app that enables her to reach out to someone who has been there or going through the same thing? She can now experience a connection with someone who understands. She can express her troubles to the discussion with someone who can understand.
What ideas do you have to reach these customers?:
Two friends are willing to support the advertising of this app. They believe in mental health and my idea. - combined 1 million Twitter followers and 300 k Instagram followers. If I had a magic wand I’d love to promote this on good morning Britain, loose women and this morning. They have consistently promoted the importance of keeping a healthy mind. Mental Health comes up regularly on these programmes.
How far have you developed this idea?:
All I have is an idea and how I want the app to look.
What – if any – feedback have you had for this idea so far?:
Very positive. The main challenge will be the conversation it’s self between users. How to make the chat flow, how to make it easy, how to make it smooth and productive- I have an idea to combat this hurdle.
What supporting material – if any - would you like to add to your proposal?:
Work in progress. I don’t wish to get bogged down on the product itself as yet...I am still determining - is this is an issue that can be solved with my idea?

Have you researched the competitive landscape? Is anyone doing something similar as this is such a good idea?

I think your idea is great but I cannot see how it will work as it takes time for people to admit they are going through a dark moment, plus in order for people to open up they need to build trust so how are you going to speed up the trust gaining process so people do not lose interest? What if people use this as a way to avoid therapy?
